Dining in Heritage Penang, Ecco Cafe

Hey people !!! Its the end of the July...guess its time for me and Karen to post up some new stuffs we try out in Penang lately. First of all, we would like to congratulate Penang for officially becoming an Unesco World Heritage site on July the 7th., 2009. Good news for you all..as next year, this day will be a PUBLIC HOLIDAY!! bravo !!!!!

The restaurant we'll be talkin about this time is something different. It looks old but trust me, they serve good Italiano stuffs.

Name: Ecco Cafe, Chulia Street

Location: Chulia Street, several shops away from Stardust cafe and famous chicken rice

Opening hours: Open daily except Sunday. 11 am to 2 pm 6 pm to 10:30 pm

This is how the cafe looks, PRETTY INTERESTING:

The good-lookin chef who dresses up well. Karen agrees :P

The old school interior

Check out the antiques, pretty sophisticated style

If you guys are looking for something that taste good with some old Georgetown Heritage interior, this is the place to be !!

Alright enough with the interiors..lets go for the food !! Altogether we ordered two drinks and two main dishes.

This is menu. Me and Karen took a quick glance and ordered. Why? WE WERE HUNGRY AND HOT !!! haha!

Lucky for this two. Freshly squeeze orange and apple juice, we felt better. Our saviour from the terrible WEATHER!!!

This is our first main dish. Its called the Fungi. Topped with cheese, tomato and not to miss out , MUSHROOMS. I like the dough. It looks simple but its pretty good and we can't stop eating it until the next dish comes. Really home stysle cafe this is !!

Our 2nd main dish..now this is probably our 5 star dish for the month. Never before i have tried such a nice "CHICKEN PIE" and i mean it !!! In this place, they call it " CHICKEN POT PIE". Under the pastry..its soup together with minced meat and potatoes. If you're going there..you better order this or you'll regret for sure. Special thanks to Karen for suggestin me to change order to this one :P

In conclusion, we are giving this restaurant some high rates because of the food. Oh ladies..pleas e remember to bring your umbrella along, you might need it because its freakin HOT !!!!

This is one interesting thing that me and karen found out when we left the restaurant. Guess the old school penangite needs some INGGERIS tuition. :P

Kirishima Japanese Restaurant (Japanese Cuisine)

Kirishima Japanese Restaurant (Japanese Cuisine)

Location: Cititel Hotel Penang (near Upper Penang Road)

Opening hours: 11am – 2.30pm, 6pm – 10.30pm.

Hey people, it’s been a while waiting and here comes me and Karen’s third posting for our Penang food hunt.

This time we go for something Asian and here it is our third destination…Kirishima Japanese Restaurant. (I’m not sure what Kirishima means but it do sound like some kick –ass Japanese samurai sword :P)

This restaurant is located inside Cititel Hotel in Jalan Penang. Its pretty near to the famous Sup Hameed mamak stall and Salsas restaurant. In fact, it’s just a couple of blocks away from Upper Penang Road where you can reach by foot. (Good news for you party animals!!)

This is how the restaurant looks with good ambient and lighting:

There are unique looking plates and chopsticks. (with a huge menu as well)

As for the food...This is the only bento set we ordered. It might be the only one but its seriously enough to make both of us full ! It costs around 30 bucks and we ordered an extra rice to share.

This picture shows it all as we have in the set:

The seaweed fried rice

Japanese steam tofu

Soba noodles

Prawn tempura

Miso Soup ( as usual) , fruits, japanese salad

and not to forget..the most important of all

THE UNAGI !!!!!

We have different kinds of Jap restaurant serving Unagi and I have to say..this is probably the best me and Karen have tried in Penang ! Luves it !!

Some close up photos of the food:

This is an odd object that Karen shoots before we left the restaurant. Its funny till we tried it:

Guess wat izzit? hehe

A.) A.) Fire alarm

B.) b B.)Air Purifier

C.) c C.)Tissue box

D.) D.) Waitress service

Overall, we think this restaurant is a good try if u people love Japanese food. Besides that, the price is reasonable for quality food like this ! Once again..bon appétit!!!
